Nomad
Feasts Pty Ltd
My
brothers, Emile and Henri Gomez and I (Ana Robinson) decided to turn
our love of food into a business venture.
We became Nomad Feasts Pty Ltd, a
company that specialises in the manufacture and importation of fine foods
from Spain, France and Morocco.
We knew that part of the business
would include importing and, although we had a limited knowledge importing
from companies we had been involved with before, none of us had handled
imports directly and specifically, the importation of foods.
We found that the best way to
apprach this was to contact the Business Enterprise Centre and discuss with
them what courses we should book ourselves into to ensure that we gained
enough knowledge to undertake our business and imports successfully.
We were able to go through the
extensive courses available and work out which one suited us best.
Business Enterprise Centre
advised us to enrol in the BEC Comprehensive Intoductory Import/Export
course.
This course gave us a terrific
insight into the world of imports and gave us the knowledge we needed to
begin to import from Spain successfully. The lecturer, Corinne Campbell, was
a wealth of information and gave us a great understanding of the kinds of
pitfalls that can occur and how best to protect ourselves as well as how to
handle documentation and financial transactions.
Corinne Campbell of XDOC® also made herself available to us for any queries or
advice during the process of importing which was invaluable in getting our
first imports into Australia. She has also given us wonderful information
and links to other services we have found useful in our business.
We now have all of our products
in Australia and are starting to sell them successfully throughout the
Sydney Metropolitan Area and in the future looking to a greater area of NSW
as well as interstate.
One of our products, Mojama (Air
dried and salt cured tuna) is being hailed as fish prosciutto and has been
written up as a favourite dish in the Sydney magazine. It is also being sold
into some of the finest restaurants in Sydney.
Our Spanish Hot Chocolate is
becoming an obsession with those that have discovered it, and our products
are gaining popularity everyday.
The ongoing support of the
Business Enterprise Centre and XDOC® have given us the
tools to begin our imports in a successful manner and the confidence to
apply all that we have learnt in the most effective ways to meet our
business needs and to ensure our success.
